How To Create A Natural Makeup Look

How To Create A Natural Makeup Look

We love a bold beauty moment, but natural makeup looks are equally as gorgeous. For those moments when you’re after a softer, more subdued beauty vibe, follow this guide on how to do natural makeup.

What You Need to Create a Natural Makeup Look

Make sure you have the right tools in your arsenal for a glowing, natural beauty look. Have a primer ready to prep your skin. You’ll want either a tinted moisturizer or a light coverage foundation for your complexion.

To finish off your base, make sure you have a blush to bring color to your cheeks, as well as a bronzer to add summery warmth to your skin. You’ll round out your look with a soft-colored eyeshadow, mascara, and an eyebrow gel (and pencil to fill in sparse areas, if desired).

How to Make Your Makeup Look Natural

Here is what to keep in mind to create a natural and radiant makeup look.

1. Prep Your Skin

Every beauty look starts with skincare. Before even reaching for your makeup, prep your skin by applying a moisturizer all over your face and neck. This will plump and soften your complexion, ensuring you have a great base to work with.

2. Prime Your Skin

Priming the skin is always a must, no matter the beauty vibe you’re going for. A primer has two main jobs: it creates a smooth, even canvas for you to build your makeup look on, and gives your makeup something to hold onto so it lasts all day. Apply an even layer of primer all over the skin, being sure to cover your eyelids as well.

3. Choose a Light-Coverage Foundation or Tinted Moisturizer

Next, it’s time to build your base using either a tinted moisturizer or foundation. Tinted moisturizers are great for subtly blurring imperfections while giving the complexion a gorgeous dewy look.

If you’d prefer something that provides more coverage, reach for a foundation. A creamy foundation that imparts a dewy finish – like the Major Skin Crème Foundation – is perfect for achieving natural, fresh makeup, as the formula melts into the skin for a your-skin-but-better look. This foundation is buildable, so you can use a small amount for sheer coverage.

The Major Skin Hydra-Luxe Luminous Skin Perfecting Foundation offers the perfect blend of lightweight coverage and a natural, radiant finish. It enhances your skin’s natural glow while providing hydration, making it an ideal choice for achieving a natural makeup look. Apply a thin layer for a fresh, dewy complexion.

With both tinted moisturizer and foundation, you can use either a damp makeup sponge or a complexion brush to work the formula into your skin. Focus on blending your product of choice for the most natural results.

4. Use Light Concealer

If you need a little extra coverage on specific spots, use a light wash of liquid concealer. Since the rest of your makeup is light, it’s important to not go overboard with how much concealer you apply. Only use a touch of concealer as needed.

For blemishes or other imperfections on the face, use a concealer brush to dot a small amount of concealer (in a shade that matches your foundation or tinted moisturizer) over the spot. Use the brush to blend it into the skin.

If you want to brighten your under-eye area, you can use a concealer that is a shade or two lighter. Sparingly add a few dots of concealer under the eyes, and blend it into the skin with a small brush or damp makeup sponge.

5. Avoid Using Contour Sticks

Don’t get us wrong – we’re big fans of contouring. But when it comes to natural makeup, it’s best to skip the contour stick. Contour can be too strong for fresher, more simple makeup, throwing your whole look off balance. Instead, focus on bringing life to your complexion through more subtle makeup techniques.

6. Add a Touch of Bronzer

A bronzing powder is great for adding a touch of warmth to your complexion. For the most natural post-vacation glow, use a fluffy complexion brush to diffuse the powder onto the high points of your face – where the sun naturally hits. Add a subtle wash of color along the forehead, nose, cheekbones and jaw for a stunning glow.

7. Apply Cream Blush and Highlighter

Maintain a gorgeous dewy, glass skin look by applying a cream blush, like that found in the Major Headlines Double-Take Crème & Powder Blush Duo. This will give your cheeks a beautiful touch of color that looks naturally radiant. A cream blush will also blend seamlessly over your tinted moisturizer or cream foundation for effortless application. Simply use a dense blush brush to stamp the cream onto the apples of the cheeks.

After applying blush, light up your complexion with a highlighter. You can again reach for a cream-based formula, like the one you’ll find in the Major Glow Crème & Powder Light Reflecting Translucent Highlighter Duo. Use a damp makeup sponge to work it on top of your cheekbones for a subtle dewy glow.

8. Apply a Soft and Neutral Eye

With a natural beauty look, you can keep your eye makeup simple. Use an eyeshadow brush to diffuse a light wash of a neutral or soft-colored eyeshadow over your lids. After that, complete your eye look by coating your lashes with mascara. If you want to use eyeliner, skip the jet black color and instead subtly line your lash line with a brown eyeliner, like the Major Dimension Precision Gel Liner in the shade Rich Brown.

9. Fill in Your Brows

Finish off your eye look by focusing on your brows. Keep your hair in place with an eyebrow gel, like the Major Brow Lamination Gel. Brush the clear formula up through the brows to lock in your desired shape. If you have any sparse areas, draw short hair-like strokes using an eyebrow pencil, like the Major Brow Defining Pencil

10. Use a Glossy Lip

Skip the lipstick, and instead reach for a gloss (like the Major Volume Plumping Gloss) for a gorgeous pout. Apply a lip gloss in a more subtle hue to add a bit of color to your pout and draw attention to the lips.

Natural and subtle makeup is always in style. Perfect the art of this type of makeup for a versatile look that works beautifully for a range of different occasions.
